Electoral Statement: After carefully considering the passion and commitment required for this position, I have chosen to accept the nomination for the position of Equity and Social Justice Chair.

I have been a middle years teacher at Green Valley School since 2002. I served on the Hanover Teachers Association for several years and am currently the Professional Development representative for Green Valley School.

There are a number of areas of social justice that I am already involved in. I participated in the Aboriginal Awareness Achievement Grant Committee for Hanover School Division. I have built important partnerships through which I’ve played a key role in promoting reconciliation and developing a greater awareness of the 94 Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. I continually seek ways to make school safe, inclusive and accessible for each student. Our school division should be known as a place where all people are respected and treated equitably.

The ESJ chairperson is to be a strong advocate for teachers. I will be an active member of the negotiation team and will always stand up for the collective bargaining rights of our teachers. We need to do more to promote equity in areas such as prep time, duty free lunch hour, and workload. I will do everything I can to ensure that the voices of our early, middle, and senior years teachers all have an equitable opportunity to be heard.
